You are the woman who volunteered to bring the devotional, and the gathering is this week.
You have a verse in mind, but no plan for what to do with it, and that gap is the whole problem.
A devotional is supposed to be short, which somehow makes it harder to prepare than a full lesson.
Reading a verse aloud and asking for prayer requests fills the time, but the room can feel like something was missing.
A Short Devotional: Trust in the Lord
Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of the most familiar passages in Scripture, and that familiarity is exactly why it works as a short devotional.
Read the two verses slowly, twice, and let the room sit with the words instead of rushing to explain them.
Then name the two halves of the passage: trusting God with the whole heart, and refusing to lean on your own understanding.
Ask each woman to think of one decision she has been carrying lately, the one she keeps turning over in her mind.
She does not have to share it out loud unless she wants to, which keeps the moment gentle for newcomers and quieter women.
Close with a simple prayer of release, asking God to take the decisions everyone in the room is carrying.
That is the entire devotional, and it works because every woman in the room walks in carrying something.
If You Want the Rest of the Evening Ready Too
The devotional stands on its own, but gatherings run longer than a devotional, and the time around it should feel intentional too.
The Trust in the Lord Bible Study Kit is built on the same passage, so it extends the evening naturally instead of pulling it in a second direction.
It includes a Proverbs 3:5-6 Read and Observe study, a Proverbs 16:9 discussion on making plans and surrendering control, application and prayer prompts, and leader notes that walk you through the conversation.
Three light fellowship games come with the kit as well, which gives the social part of the evening a ready-made plan.
Bring the devotional this week, and keep the kit in mind for the gatherings when you want the whole evening planned.
